GIVE TO THE COMMUNITY HOUSE | Outreach Programs

Outreach Programs
The Community House, an independent not-for-profit organization established in Birmingham, Michigan in1923, welcomes all people. It works in partnership with individuals, organizations and businesses to bring educational, social and cultural enrichment to people in the metropolitan area. The Community House provides an exceptional facility for meetings and celebrations and is a home for classes and programs that enhance the quality of life.

Meeting Facility for Non-Profit Groups
The Community House provides meeting space for 96 nonprofit groups in the community. Thirty-two nonprofit groups meet here on a regular basis.

Educational Classes and Programs
More than 700 different classes and free community forums are offered each year for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds.

Sponsorships
The Community House sponsors various organizations and events, which meet specific community needs.

Artist of the Month
Artist of the Month is an outreach program that gives local artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work on a rotating basis.

Birmingham Bloomfield Newcomers Club
The club offers women who are new to the area an opportunity to meet on a monthly basis and get involved in various interest groups.

Breakfast with Santa
The Community House, in cooperation with Birmingham Youth Assistance, hosted 300 children and adults to a breakfast complete with live music and entertainment. Each child received a gift and visit with Santa.

Children Only Holiday Shop
Now in its 17th year, the Children Only Shop provided a special place for children ages 3 to 12 to select gifts for friends and family. Fifty-six Community House Volunteer Guild members and teen community service students participated in the event.

Garden Club
Members help tend The Community House grounds and meet monthly to hear speakers on their favorite topics.

Influential Women Business Breakfast Series
The series highlighted respected area business women sho shared their stories of their roads to success. Featured speakers in 2003 included: Florine Mark, Weight Watchers; Beth Chappell, Detroit Economic Club; Julia Darlow, Dickinson Wright PLLC; Grace Gilchrist, WXYZ, Channel 7; and Iris Taylor, Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital.

International Community Club
The International Community Club enjoys a membership of over 100 men and women from the United States and abroad. Each month, the club provides international education, social and cultural activities for members.

Race Relations & Diversity Task Force
Area residents concerned with achieving racial equality and ethnic diversity within our community participate in monthly programs and discussion.

Senior Men's Club
The Senior Men’s Club is an organization of Birmingham retired men devoted to the promotion of fellowship, cultural interests and the rendering of service. Members attend weekly luncheons, programs and interest groups

StoryTellers Guild
Over 125 members strong, the StoryTellers Guild’s mission is to enrich the lives of children through the art and love of storytelling. Active members of the Guild read to children in Hazel Park, Pontiac and Oak Park elementary schools as well as area hospitals. Monthly meetings and programs are held throughout school year.

Student OUR TOWN Art Exhibition
Art teachers from 31 local and private schools select the artwork of 240 student artists for exhibition at The Community House during the two weeks preceding OUR TOWN.

The Community House Senior Women’s Club
Bi-monthly luncheons and a variety of interest groups provide the 703 members of the Senior Women’s Club with numerous opportunities for socialization, enrichment and entertainment.

Twenty-First Century Leaders
Seventh graders from local schools met during the school year to develop leadership skills. In 2003, leaders worked with the Baldwin Public Library on the Downtown Birmingham Parade.
