Senior Men's Club
Senior
Men’s Club of Birmingham
Founded in 1957, the Senior Men’s Club is an organization of
retired men who meet for fellowship and to learn from the many distinguished speakers who address them to share their expertise and insight into the issues of the business, professional, religious, social and civic organizations in which they sustain active roles.
The club promotes fellowship, cultural interests and service. Weekly current affairs speakers and discussion groups support these objectives. The lunch-linked sessions at The Community House in Birmingham, Michigan, combined with study groups in computers, investments, cameras, educational day trips, and reading discussion groups, nurture the relationship of members. Bowling, golf and bridge programs enjoy extensive following.
Club members contribute importantly to the community via extensive and multi-faceted volunteering in support of many social, charitable, educational and religious organizations.
Club meetings and activities are for members only. However, membership is available for any male 65 and older, or those at least 55 and retired from regular occupations.
Men interested in joining or learning more about the club should contact Membership Chairman Pete Kass at 248.335.5472.
In 2004, the Senior Men's Club of Birmingham, Michigan published The Wars of Our Generation, a book wherein 82 members of the Senior Men's Club each describes his own individual experiences in military service in World War II and the Korean War.
Quoting from the book's Dedication, "...For the authors, writing for this book has brought memories, good and bad, of the experiences and hardships they faced, most as "citizen soldiers" and we are proud to share those experiences.. we hope our book is read by our children and grandchildren and by other young people. It is important that they not only understand our contributions to the cause of freedom in the world, but also [that they recognize] the terrible costs and futility of wars..."
