Registration and Tuition
Registration can be done online, in person or by phone at The Community House. Tuition fees must be paid at the time of registration. Prices listed are per semester. Frequent Dancer Discount: Students eligible for this discount must take multiple classes a week that are a minimum of one hour in length. For students enrolled in multiple classes a payment plan is available. Contact the program department for details. Late payments will be charged a $10 late fee per class. There are no refunds or prorated tuition due to absences. Students beginning the term late must pay the full amount for class or be charged a single class rate of $15 per class for remaining classes in the term, whichever amount is less. No refunds or credits are given once class begins its second week. Participants will be charged for the first session at a rate of $15. All refunds incur a $10 processing fee. Class Cancellations: Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If class is cancelled due to low enrollment, TCH will provide a full refund. Costume fees for dance performances are separate from tuition.
Class Placements and Age Requirements
Students are placed according to demonstrated ability at the teacher’s discretion. Please contact TCH
Dance Academy at 248-594-6415 for placement information. Students must be age level of class by
September 30. For example if the class is Creative Dance for 3 year old, students must be 3 by
September 30.
Dance Studio Facilities and Building Entrance
TCH Dance Academy is housed in the lower level of The Community House. The DeRoy and Allesee Dance Studios are spacious rooms equipped with cushioned wood dance floors covered in the top of line marley dance floor covering for optimum performance and safety. Full length mirrors, wall mounted and portable barres complete the studios. Both studios have observation windows in the hallway/lobby area. Our lobby bulletin boards are a great resource for global dance news, dance education postings and will showcase our dance students accomplishments. Located in the lounge of the lower level ladies restroom are storage lockers to place your clothing while you are in class. The dance director’s office is located on 2nd floor for private parent/teacher conferencing. Parents with their children may enter the building from the South entrance or Townsend Street entrance; take the stairs to the lower level, the dance studios are on the left. Children and siblings must be supervised by their parent or guardian while in the waiting areas. Parents are invited into the classrooms for observation week each semester; dates can be found on the school calendar.
Attendance and Punctuality
Please call the Dance Academy if you will be absent from a class. Students should make up classes missed due to illness or injury. Makeups are offered at the discretion of TCH Dance Academy and must be completed in the current term. No refunds or credits will be given for missed classes. Technique and choreography are progressive and build from class to class. Excessive absences will inhibit a dancer’s growth. Promptness is essential due to the importance of warm up. The instructor also uses the beginning of class time to focus students on their particular goals and tasks to be achieved that day. Late comers may participate at the discretion of the instructor. Students who arrive late may be asked to observe the remainder of the class, as it will not be possible for them to be properly warmed up to join the dance.
Students who arrive late should wait in the class entrance until the exercise in progress is complete and the teacher instructs them to join in.
Dress Code
A complete list of attire for this season can be found by clicking the Dress Code link to the right. TCH Dance Academy and The Community House are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please label all personal belongings.
Communications and Correspondence
The dance faculty teaches several classes in a row, and are unable to communicate with you between classes. When students or parents have questions regarding class, curriculum, individual progress, they are encouraged to contact the Director of Dance Academy through her office and she will connect you with an appropriate manner of communication with your instructor. Please provide us with an email address during registration. Studio announcements often come in the form of email. Handouts are occasionally given in class. Please check the dance bags regularly as well as the studio bulletin boards.
